IRELAND: Iarnród Éireann has awarded Rolls-Royce a contract to rebuild the three MTU PowerPacks fitted to a Class 22000 diesel multiple-unit with ZF’s EcoWorld transmissions, which are designed to be more efficient and quieter in operation.

This is expected to bring a 19% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions when the  Hyundai Rotem/
Tokyu Car Corp inter-city DMU operates on the Dublin – Cork route.

‘What we do doesn’t stop at just selling a new engine to a customer, we provide a complete drive solution to suit their needs’, said Jürgen Blassmann, head of rail business at MTU’s Power Systems business, on June 20. ‘Using our state-of-the-art simulation equipment and a hardware-in-the-loop test stand, we were able to design the best concept for the needs of Iarnród Éireann.’
